Basics

Johnson CAD automatically "cuts" all the pipe and hangers, even on a slope. Standard details never have to be redrawn, just save them in your database and place them in any drawing, eliminating most mathematical, stocklisting and hydraulic input errors and producing clean, reproducible, computer generated drawings.

Automatic Head Layout

Automatic Head Layout spaces the sprinklers for you automatically. It automatically places the sprinklers in any shaped room and at the same time, avoids obstructions such as lights, diffusers and ceiling grid. After the building is input, you simply enter the maximum spacing of the sprinklers and the walls of the room in which you want to space heads. It's that simple! Johnson CAD's Automatic Head Layout will work using either standard or extended coverage sprinklers, allowing you to determine the most effective coverage for the room or area.

Automatic Pipe Layout

Automatic Pipe Layout connects all the sprinklers to the main piping. After the heads are entered, simply locate the main piping and "window-in" the heads you want to connect. JohnsonCAD will then draw in all the branch lines and arm-overs. If the piping configuration is not as desired, JohnsonCAD will change the layout. Just press a key, and the layout will change to reflect different branch lines with either more or less arm-overs, whichever you choose. The layout that better suits your needs can then be chosen. This is not just for simple grids but for those "cut-up" projects also. Next complete the job by using the built-in hydraulics and stocklisting programs.

Hydraulic Calculations

Hydraulic Calculations built into JohnsonCAD reads information already on the drawing and calculates up to ten different remote areas on the same drawing, thereby saving needless input time. All you have to do is select the remote area and define the density and gpm required.

Estimating

With the addition of scanning technology, it is possible to estimate faster and more accurately than it ever was by hand. Scanning technology has recently taken giant steps forward. It is now possible to run a full size drawing through a scanner and have the drawing automatically input as an image on the computer screen. By using the automatic head layout and the automatic branch line layout, the entire system will be put into JohnsonCAD. This will then allow the hydraulics and stocklisting to be run. Then use the JohnsonCAD estimate sheet and complete material list with prices in your estimate.

Automatic Stocklisting

Automatic Stocklisting is provided through JohnsonCAD by reading the drawing and compiling the list from the material in your database. JohnsonCAD can save hours of design time on every job by providing a material stocklist with the push of a button. All welded pipe cut lengths on fab sheets, as well as threaded pipe, hangers, sprinklers, and everything on the drawing is automaticlly included on the stocklist. JohnsonCAD even has an interface with major independent stocklisting programs.

Automatic Material Submittals

Automatic Material Submittals - With the addition of CD-ROM, the completed drawing is used to generate a material submittal that can be printed with one keystroke. This is not a list of material, but laser printed copies of Johnson's lastest data sheets, ready to be copied and bound for submittial. No searching for submittal sheets, no unreadable copies, no messing with catalogs, just press a key and the JohnsonCAD program will print your material submittial directly from our catalog using the database on the CD-Rom disk. As the catalog gets updated, you will receive updated disks.

Future

Future advantages will be more incredible than what you are seeing today. It will be possible to use virtual reality to actually see the building and walk through it, see a sprinkler flowing and route your pipe around obstructions.
